It occupies an area of 487 acres (197 hectares) north and east of the St. Marylebone district. Originally a part of Henry VIII’s hunting forest, Regent’s Park was developed and landscaped (in the 1810s and ’20s) by the city planner and architect John Nash as an area of leisure for the royal family and other aristocrats. It was opened to the public by 1841 and is one of the main parks of central London.
